And Yet More Globality
Yesterday, just for the heck of it, I went to Twitter and clicked on the top “Trending topic,” which happened to be “#Iranelection.”
As I began scanning down the items, I got a little alert at the top saying, “12 new results since you started searching. Refresh to see them.”
I hit Refresh, then started scanning again — but before I’d even gotten through the screen I got a new alert notice:
“349 new results since you started searching. Refresh to see them.”
349?! In the space of about eleven seconds?! That’s an awful lot of humanity pouring in through my computer screen. Talk about having your thumb on the pulse of the planet.
P.S. It’s been an Ashton Kutcher kind of day: this afternoon the number of my Twitter followers exceeded, well, not one million, but one thousand. Isn’t that twiffic? (I guess Ashton need not be nervous, at least not yet.)
In case you’re interested, my twittername is, no surprise here, #johndavidmann. (Just entwes nous.)

It’s almost incomprehensible — without Twitter, YouTube and other social media sites, we’d now have only 3rd- or 4th-hand news, with the “talking heads” repeating old news over and over again! Pretty good justification for these sites.
I’m going to go find you on Twitter.
